Introduction

You’ve probably heard of Power BI by now. It’s a fantastic tool that lets you create beautiful dashboards and analyses. But if you’re just starting out, it can feel a bit unfamiliar. How do you actually build a Power BI model properly? What should you pay attention to to ensure it runs smoothly? These are all things you could figure out yourself. But learning from a specialist is not only a great experience, it also gives you a flying start!

In this training, we’ll teach you step-by-step how to build a Power BI model. You’ll learn how to import and prepare data. You’ll learn how to connect tables using relationships to create a data model. You’ll learn how to create your first reports with beautiful, interactive visualizations. And you’ll learn how to roll out such a report to colleagues so you can all use the new insights together. In short, after completing this training, you’ll be able to independently build your first models in Power BI!

Topics

A full day of hands-on training. You’ll discover how Power BI works step by step. We’ll practice extensively and use recognizable examples. This way, you’ll be sure to be able to use the material right away.

  • We’ll look at the most important principles of Power BI
    How does Power BI work? What do you use it for, and what shouldn’t you use it for? What are the licensing arrangements?
  • Importing Data
    In this training, we’ll first teach you how to import data from Excel files. But that’s not all. We’ll also show you how to place files in a folder and load them into Power BI incredibly quickly.
  • Formatting and Structuring Data
    You’ll learn how to properly prepare and cleanse your data. It won’t surprise you that the quality of your data determines the quality of your reports. Using Power Query, you’ll learn how to prepare and cleanse your data. We’re building a “car wash” for this so that future data is automatically cleaned!
  • Creating and Managing Relationships
    We’ll now work towards building a data model. Linking tables in Power BI isn’t done with formulas, but with relationships. However, there are conditions attached, and you may encounter exceptions. We’ll show you step by step how it works.
  • Creating Reports
    Now that the data model is in place, we can move on to the visual layer. A super fun part, of course! We’ll teach you how to quickly and effectively build visualizations using on-object interaction. We’ll also look at implementing your corporate identity and how to organize your visualizations as clearly as possible. Ultimately, it’s all about getting the message across!
  • Distributing Reports
    A wonderful moment! You’ve created your first report. Now you want to roll it out to colleagues. We’ll set up the distribution via Power BI Online. We’ll also show you how to monitor and export reports, and many other great features.

    The training is packed with practical tips and eye-openers, even for those who thought: “I already know this.” Afterward, you’ll receive a certificate, and you can be proud of what you’ve learned!
